Beer Type: Hefeweizen
Serving Temp: 35-40 degrees
Much like many of Shiner’s beers, their Hefeweizen is not exactly to style. Brewed with honey, orange peels and lemon zest, it is certainly not made according the traditional German “Reinheitsgebot." But, as we’ve said before, who cares? Shiner makes a highly drinkable hefe that is both refreshing and bright and is great for summer days and chilly spring evenings alike.
Shiner Hefeweizen is bottle conditioned, which means it wears its yeast proudly. The friendly folks at Shiner recommend pouring half the bottle, swirling the rest of the beer around and then pouring the rest into your glass. This will give it the traditional hazy opacity that can seem strange on such a light beer. Never fear, this is normal. Shiner recommends you serve this with a lemon wedge, but we here at Texas Brews never condone such behavior. But it’s a free country, make your own choice.
Appearance: azy golden yellow with a pillowy white cap.
Aroma: Lemon zest and subdued hints of orange and spring flowers.
Taste: Light fruity up front with wheat playing a big part and a soft aftertaste of orange and other light citrus.
Mouthfeel: Medium on the palate with moderate carbonation and spritzy finish.
Drinkability: Highly quaffable as flavors come and go quickly and aftertaste is minimal. Refreshing and good for any time.
