Rahr & Sons Brewing Company

Established in 2004

701 Galveston Avenue, Fort Worth, Texas 76104, 817.810.9266

Rahr & Sons Brewing Company likes to tout themselves as “the brand new beer with the 150-year history,” and it’s really kind of true. The family of founder and owner Fritz Rahr emigrated from Germany in the mid 1800s and started making beer, and are still a major malt supplier throughout the country. Fritz, who is and is a TCU alumnus, founded Rahr & Sons in 2004 with the goal of making traditional brews with a Texas twist.

The Rahr Brewery suffered a major setback in early 2010 when their roof collapsed under a record snowfall. Although their production was down for several months while a new roof was built and broken equipment was replaced, Rahr has come back stronger than ever with a reinvigorated fan base, new bottling line and updated brewery.

Rahr offers tours and tastings every Wednesday from 5-7:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 1-3 p.m. Admittance is $7, which includes a Rahr pint glass, three of their beers and an optional tour that is typically given by Fritz or one of the brewers. Wednesdays tend to be a little more low key with a one-off or rare brew usually on tap. Saturdays are considerably busier and usually only have their standard brews available for sample with the possibility of a seasonal available. Saturdays also feature a local restaurant at the brewery selling food to help temper some of that beer. Make sure and bring cash as it’s preferred (but credit cards are accepted too for entry).
